One Day Workshop on CNIC & Voter Registration - Importance and Procedures
LODHRAN, April 28, 2012: Organization for Public Interest (OPI) arranged a one-day training workshop for NGOs on importance and procedure of CNIC and voter registration. Speaking to the workshop, Ms. Zahra Sajjad Zaidi, Program Associate Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) Multan said that raising awareness about importance of vote and need of CNIC for sustainable democracy in Pakistan is need of the hour. She said that voter turnout in Pakistan is less than half when compared to neighbor countries which should be noticed not only by NGOs rather government too. At this occasion, Gulfam Mustafa, Manager MER of Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP) said that citizenship and vote are fundamental human rights and government should take all necessary steps towards its provision. He suggested, Election Commission of Pakistan should launch a campaign for awareness about voter registration and voter education in collaboration with civil society organizations so that real democracy in the country could be made possible. A number of members from various NGOs and Civil Society Organizations including Syed Zafar Iqbal Bukhari, Ch. Waris Ali, Abdul Sattar, A.D. Anjum, Hafiza Ishrat Khursheed, Rizwan Mustafa and Adnan Ahmed participated in the workshop.
